Home Start - Support and friendship for families
Sutton Coldfield

About

Home-Start Birmingham North West is a voluntary organisation and small independent charity working within the wards of Sutton Coldfield (Four Oaks, New Hall, Trinity & Vesey) & Kingstanding.

We were established during August 1993 and our Patron is Andrew Mitchell MP & Shadow Secretary of State for International Development.

In order to receive our support, a family must have at least one child under the age of five years, thereafter we will support the family as a whole for as long as it is needed.

We aim to support families who are experiencing crisis situations, these include; Domestic Violence, Depression, Post Natal Depression, Isolation, Debt Crisis, Drug & Alcohol Related Problems, Mental Health Issues, Single Parenting Challenges, Family Breakdown, Poor Housing & Multiple Births.

We work in partnerships with external agencies such as; Social Services, Relate, Acacia, Children's Centres, Debt Counselling Services, Citizens Advice Bureau and Local Fire & Police Services.

We are led by a board of Trustees and Management Committee members and follow guidelines, policies and practices as laid out by our umbrella body Home-Start UK.

We recruit and train volunteers which includes a ten-session preparation course. Upon completion of the course, the volunteers are suitably matched with their respective family and will then make home visits to support the family for as long as it is needed.

Family Groups are held each week at The United Reformed Church Building (URC) in Sutton Town Centre on Thursday mornings between 10am and 11:30am.

We do all possible to provide training and also parenting classes for families. Educational family visits, Christmas parties, Summer Picnics, Visits to the Zoo and other treats are also provided.
